Ventotene. A Manifesto that Speaks

On April 15, 2025, the Aula Magna of the University of Milan will host the lecture-performance “Ventotene: A Manifesto That Speaks.” The initiative is promoted by the University of Milan and the Municipality of Milan as part of the project “A Time for Peace and Freedom. Eighty Years of Liberation”, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Italian Liberation.
The event will retrace the origins and legacy of the Ventotene Manifesto, written in 1941 during the height of World War II. This foundational text laid the groundwork for a free, united, and peaceful Europe based on cooperation, democracy, and respect for fundamental rights. Piero Graglia, Full Professor in the Department of International, Legal, and Political-Historical Studies and curator of the event, will guide the audience through a historical commentary on the Manifesto. His lecture will be accompanied by readings of selected excerpts, performed by Luca Gibillini (Head of Institutional Relations with the City – Office of the Mayor, Municipality of Milan), Paolo Pasi (TG3 journalist), and Anna Battaia (student and actress in the university’s theater company).
