Conference "Urban Security: Social Demand or Political Strategy?"

The conference “Urban Security: Social Demand or Political Strategy?” – the final conference of the PRIN PNRR project The Determinants of Urban Security Policies and Their Impact on Democratic Institutions – aims to present and discuss the results of an interdisciplinary research project devoted to the analysis of the determinants of urban security policies.

Hosted by the University of Milan and organised in collaboration with the University of Bologna, the event is structured into several sessions. The first part is dedicated to the theoretical and criminological framework of the research, followed by the presentation of the main lines of inquiry and the key findings emerging from the work of the research units involved. The second part is organised around two round tables. The first seeks to critically examine the research findings from a legal, institutional and comparative perspective; the second focuses on the political implications of urban security policies and their impact on decision-making processes and democratic institutions.

The dialogue among scholars, institutional actors and representatives of civil society aims to provide a critical and well-founded contribution to the scientific and public debate on an issue of particular relevance for law and for the development of security policies.
