Schemes and Paradigms of Justice: From the "Eumenides" to "Restorative Justice"

From March 12 to March 14, 2025, the seminar titled “Schemes and Paradigms of Justice: From the Eumenides to Restorative Justice” will be held, organized by the Italian Institute for Philosophical Studies in Naples.
With an interdisciplinary perspective that combines criminology, law, history and philosophy, the seminar will address the theme of justice—not as a passive duplication of harm, but as an active exercise in reconstructing social bonds. Acknowledging the tension in contemporary societies between retributive and restorative approaches, the discussions will emphasize the need to "change the lenses" through which we view the world and justice, in order to give a deeper meaning to the sense of reparation. From the Eumenides to the Cartabia Reform, this concept has remained a source of hope throughout human history.
The sessions will take place both in person and online via Zoom. To attend remotely, participants must submit a registration request to newsletter@iisf.it. To receive an online attendance certificate, a request must be sent to the same email address no later than the day before the seminar begins.
