Book Presentation: “Universal Justice? Between States and the International Criminal Court: Assessing a Promise” (Il Mulino, 2024) by Chantal Meloni

As part of the initiatives promoted within the “La Statale for Peace” program of the University of Milan, a new series of monthly events will be launched, dedicated to the presentation of books that address, from diverse and interdisciplinary perspectives, current issues related to peace and social justice.
The initiative aims to offer a space for reflection, dialogue, and cultural engagement open to the academic community and the wider public, fostering discussion among scholars, authors, students, and citizens. Each meeting will provide an opportunity to explore, through reading and discussion, contemporary challenges concerning the construction of peace and the protection of fundamental rights.
On October 10, 2025, the presentation of the book “Universal Justice? Between States and the International Criminal Court: Assessing a Promise” (Il Mulino, 2024) by Chantal Meloni will take place. The author will be joined by Ferruccio de Bortoli, journalist and essayist, and Marco Pedrazzi, professor at the University of Milan.
The volume analyzes the International Criminal Court, established in 1998 to prosecute genocide and war crimes, highlighting its limitations and the accusations of politicization in contemporary conflicts, from Ukraine to Palestine.
