1975–2025: Half a Century of the Penitentiary System between Implemented Reforms and New Challenges
On 18 September 2025 at 9:30 a.m., in the Malliani Hall, Via Festa del Perdono 7, the conference “1975–2025: Half a Century of the Penitentiary System between Implemented Reforms and New Challenges” will take place, organized by the Department of Legal Studies “Cesare Beccaria” of the University of Milan and the Milan Criminal Lawyers’ Association “Gian Domenico Pisapia.”
The conference will provide an opportunity to reflect, together with the speakers, on the current crisis of the Italian prison system, on the progress achieved over the years and the milestones reached, on the most urgent interventions still required, and on future prospects.
The main topics will range from the principle of humanity in punishment to the judicial protection of prisoners’ rights, from suspended liberty to the sanctioning prison-centrism.
