Youth Political Participation in Italy: The Case of the Student Movement for Palestine
September 1st, 2025
In the article “Youth Political Participation in Italy: The Case of the Student Movement for Palestine”, published in the journal Partecipazione e conflitto, Massimiliano Andretta and Paola Imperatore examine the role of a new generation of Italian students in the pro-Palestinian mobilization. Against the backdrop of a crisis of democratic institutions, the rise of the far right, and growing intolerance of dissent, outrage at the violence in Gaza has driven young people to experiment with new forms of political participation beyond traditional channels. The article traces the local and global dynamics that have shaped this renewed youth activism, underscoring the central role of universities as both the epicentre and the target of protest.
