New call for applications for the National PhD in Peace Studies

The new call for applications for the National PhD in Peace Studies has been published, and the University of Milan participates in the programme through the curriculum dedicated to restorative justice and the nonviolent transformation of conflicts. 

The supplementary call for applications for admission to the National PhD Programme in Peace Studies (42nd cycle, Academic Year 2026/2027) has been officially published. Among the participating institutions is the University of Milan, which takes part in the programme through the curriculum “Restorative Justice, Transitional Justice and the Nonviolent Transformation of Conflicts”. 

A PhD represents the third cycle of higher education and the highest academic qualification within the Italian university system. The programme is designed to develop advanced research skills and to prepare candidates to conduct high-level scholarly research and contribute to knowledge production in areas of scientific and social relevance. 

The curriculum offered with the participation of the University of Milan addresses highly topical issues with significant social impact, including restorative justice, transitional justice processes in societies dealing with conflict or human rights violations, and practices for the nonviolent transformation of conflicts. The programme adopts an interdisciplinary approach aimed at peacebuilding, the protection of rights, and the promotion of social cohesion. 

Applications, together with the required payment, must be completed by 3 July 2026 at 2:00 p.m. (CET), in accordance with the procedures outlined in the call for applications and the application guidelines. 

The new cycle of the National PhD in Peace Studies offers an important opportunity for graduates interested in pursuing research on peace, justice, and conflict transformation within a national network of universities and research centres committed to fostering more inclusive and sustainable societies.
