Elisa, the film inspired by the essay “I Wanted to Kill Her. For a Criminology of Encounter”

September 15th, 2025

From September 5, 2025, “Elisa”, the new film by Leonardo Di Costanzo, will open in Italian cinemas, following its selection in competition at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival.

The film is freely adapted from the essay Io volevo ucciderla. Per una criminologia dell’incontro [I Wanted to Kill Her. For a Criminology of Encounter] by Adolfo Ceretti and Lorenzo Natali (Raffaello Cortina, 2022). The book, based on a series of conversations with a woman convicted of murder, adopts a radical interactionist approach to examine how she narrates her own story, her relationships, and the act she committed.

The film draws on this perspective and translates it to the screen, offering audiences a powerful reflection on violence, justice, and responsibility.
