Contro la paura. Manifesto per una sicurezza democratica

May 10th, 2026

In “Contro la paura. Manifesto per una sicurezza democratica” [Against Fear: Manifesto for Democratic Security] (Feltrinelli, 2026), Carlo Bonini and Franco Gabrielli reflect on one of the most central and controversial issues in public debate: security.

In recent years, this field has increasingly been dominated by a narrative grounded in fear, one that equates security with repression, exclusion, and the reduction of rights. The authors challenge this paradigm and propose an alternative: a democratic approach to security capable of holding together freedom and protection, rights and order. Through some of the most sensitive issues of our time, from migration to public order, from prisons to cybersecurity, the book examines the limits of dominant securitarian policies and calls for the construction of an idea of security based on public responsibility, prevention, and social cohesion.
